After our annual open house in January, our fabulous preferred photographer vendor, Jamie Blackerby with Jamie Huffman Photography, asked us if Cross Creek Ranch were open to hosting, and us to styling, a styled shoot. We were immediately excited and nervous. A styled shoot is always an over-the-top showcase of design, trends, and concept that somehow, forms a cohesive viewpoint. Sometimes, it’s easy to take a bride’s vision and turn it into reality, but when there is no structure, visions and ideas can run wild. The challenge with this shoot was boiling down all the wonderful, but slightly ADD thoughts, running through our head, as our brain child grew and morphed into an attainable goal.
Focusing on our own talents, helped us to reign in our thoughts and concentrate on the task at hand. As talks and meetings progressed, the style, theme and feel started to take shape. Pink and peach are always popular colors for weddings, so we decided to center around these colors, but the more prominent aspect we wanted to achieve was an earthy, bohemian, natural feel with a pop of decadence. After all this is a “wedding”.
We at CCR decided the best angle would be to show what we do for our clients. One of our first thoughts was to have an antique furniture piece overflowing with sweet treats and floral. Collectively with our vendors, we helped style a sweet dessert display, with expertly hand crafted (and might I say delicious) desserts, generously donated by our cake vendor C. Marie’s Sweets. The “naked cake” was the star of the display, which we added pops of floral and berry accents to complete the design. We placed our white shutters, with greenery strung across wispy and freeform, and an off center floral accent, behind the vanity. To complete the feel, we placed lush and drippy green hanging amaranthus and kahala roses in the drawers not occupied with pies, tarts, mini angel food cakes, and delicate macaroon cookies.
A new trend we have seen is the “cheese cake” shown, which represents a new twist on an appetizer cheese display. Artisan cheese is delicately stacked on top of each other, with pears, berries, dried apricots, assorted nuts, and honey offered to help bring out the savory but sweet undertones cheese can possess. The “cake” is placed on this gorgeous mauve pink lace linen that just screams lavish wine country. This linen can be ordered from our linen vendor, along with other fantastic pieces, and the “cheese cake” service can be ordered through Cross Creek Ranch and styled for your event as well.
The bride and groom tablescape we constructed for this, allowed us to bring in a few more trends that we are loving right now. Lush greenery has been requested more than once this 2016 wedding season, so we decided to take it up a notch, because again, that is what you do with styled shoots. After placing the 14 foot greenery garland down the middle of the table, hanging down off the sides and pooling on the flagstone, we filled it in the vases overflowing with peonies, roses, stock, and my personal favorite, mauve scabiosa, gold candelabras (which can be rented from Love, Lace, and Vintage) and lotus pods sprayed in various metallic shades, including rose gold and copper. The final touch was the cedar board, suspended above the table, dripping with Italian ruscus, plumosa, green amaranthus, and a vintage brass chandelier with amber light bulbs. We fell in love with this look so much that we now are offering the cedar plank placed above your cake table, decorated how you prefer or we design for you, and it is beautiful. The chairs our couple sat in, are also offered by our linen service and can be rented if desired.
Finally, there was another fantastic (and new vendor to the CCR family) who really helped transform this project into the jaw dropper it became. From the get go, Jamie and us both wanted to pull in Jessica Roan from Love, Lace, and Vintage. Her prop rentals, florals, and styling talents are visionary. Here at the ranch, we do florals, but we do not do the wedding party floral, so we definitely wanted to show off her talents in that area. Her beautiful bouquets are nothing short of stunning. My personal favorite was the peach example, which included peach ranunculus, Juliet garden roses, and white lilac. She also has these whimsical antique milk jugs, so we asked her to showcase her arrangement talents, by doing the ceremony decoration floral in them. The other item we knew we wanted was a boat shot. Jessica happily, obliged us in constructing a cascading floral look complete with silver dollar eucalyptus, roses, larkspur, hypericum berry, and willow eucalyptus.
This day wouldn’t have been possible without the initial vision and hard work of Jamie Blackerby, but also the “behind the scenes” people. We want to give a big thank you to Men’s Warehouse, Wylie Bridal Shoppe, and Angie Williams Hair and Makeup. Also THANK YOU THANK YOU to our fantastic models Molly, Brian, and Katie. You guys nailed it!
